Nobody Said It Was Easy

A year ago today, I got a call from my mom telling me I needed to get to Pueblo as soon as possible. My brother Jeremy was critically ill.

As I drove to Colorado, my mind filled with regret. No matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t remember much of our childhood—or even our adulthood. I thought about all the time I spent stuck in my own world, surrounded by memories I couldn’t escape. I prayed for another chance to be there for my brother… another chance to just talk to him.

As the miles passed, I found myself wishing I could go back to the beginning and do it all over again.

But that chance never came. I never got the opportunity—the privilege—to have another conversation with Jeremy.

This has been one of the hardest lessons I’ve ever faced. We don’t know how much time we have, or how much time our loved ones have left. Life is truly short.

I’m sharing this as a reminder—to myself and to anyone who needs it—to seize the moment. Spend time with your family and your friends. Tell people what they mean to you. Because in the blink of an eye, everything can change.
